Set of 2 wheel strips (for one bike) to protect your inner tube from the
wheel spokes. Slip it on and protect the spokes from poking your inner tubes. Fits Schwinn 26" 1 3/8" & 26" 1 1/4" S5 S6 597 wheels. New items, actually in stock, (unlike other sellers) and we always have quick shipping.
Helpful info:
Vintage Schwinn wheels are high quality steel with nice chrome plating. Clean them up with #0000 steel wool and wd40. Although excellent quality, they do have ugly welds that can be sharp on the inside of the rim where the rim is welded together, be sure to file or sandpaper these sharp edges until they feel smooth to the touch and the sharp point is gone.
If your tire pops off the wheel when inflated, your tire pressure may be to high. 45psi has worked for me. These Schwinn wheels can go out of true, if the wheel isn't a perfect circle, there is a higher chance of tire slipping off. This is called radial truing. Search the interwebs for a video on how to radial true wheels. Be sure to true your wheels with a spoke wrench every time you do maintenance. Lateral truing is the side to side straightness, and radial is the circular shape of the wheel. True both radial and lateral before installing your wheel back on the bike. This will improve the speed, and braking power of your wheel, and the wheel will roll much better.
There is only one tire available that fits your 26" S6 wheel. That is the Kenda K23, available on ebay.
I highly recommend to use slime tube sealant in your tubes. Buy the Slime 26x1 3/8 slime tube with sealant already in the tube. If you dont have sealant in your tube, first time you go for a ride and roll over a thorn your tire will go flat and you've got a bunch of work ahead of you to patch the tube. Always use tube sealant.
